The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
