The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his side can continue to cope with injury setbacks following revealing that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The German forward has been sidelined since the summer after undergoing an operation on his knee. Hoped to return earlier in December, the manager stated the player hit a snag when increasing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This news leaves a tactical puzzle for the midweek match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back from a muscle injury in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Remain

More doubts surround defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to start again in central defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the significant outlay on squad depth in the last transfer window has resulted in a much stronger position to navigate such setbacks.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

In response if increased squad depth was helping their league challenge, Arteta was emphatic. “Yes, since the current term has been worse in certain positions, and now the problems with the defence,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they need to be prepared to perform various functions if we want to compete at the top. And the example of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the complication previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “He followed all protocols. He could not go to the required step and now the signs are like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his eagerness to have him back. “The team is keen to have him. I mean, Havertz is someone that, personally, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his nature. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I look forward to get him back involved and playing because I think it’s going to be a massive boost.”
