JP Morgan Warned US Authorities About More Than $1 Billion in Epstein-Related Financial Activities Possibly Connected to Human Trafficking

Newly unsealed records confirm that America's largest bank submitted a SAR in 2019 alerting federal authorities about more than $1 billion in transactions linked to Jeffrey Epstein that were potentially related to trafficking activities.

Financial Institution's Comprehensive Reporting of Questionable Activity

The banking giant identified approximately 4,700 transactions totaling more than $1 billion that appeared potentially connected to human trafficking reports involving the financier, according to the recently unsealed court documents.

The report was submitted only a few weeks after Epstein's death in a Manhattan detention facility and also flagged wire transfers made by Epstein to Russian banks.

Prominent Individuals Named in Report

The suspicious activity report identified several prominent business figures and persons in association with the flagged transactions, such as:

  • The Apollo co-founder, that left the private equity firm in 2021
  • Glenn Dubin, a prominent investment professional
  • Alan Dershowitz, who served as legal counsel for Epstein
  • Financial entities under the direction of billionaire businessman the retail magnate

The report particularly noted $65 million in wire transfers from the 2000s era that seemed to transfer between various financial institutions associated with the Wexner-controlled entities.

Judicial and Governmental Scrutiny

The bank's long-standing association with Epstein has become a focus of significant legal scrutiny and political attention.

The unsealed documents were included in legal proceedings from 2023 filed by the US Virgin Islands, where the financier maintained a personal island property and conducted the majority of his financial affairs.

Furthermore, women who were trafficked by the financier also were involved in the legal action, which the banking institution ultimately resolved.

Bank's Statement and Regulatory Background

An official representative for JP Morgan commented that the publication of the suspicious activity reports demonstrates the bank had notified regulators about the financier appropriately.

The representative stated: "The SARs do confirm what's been inferred: the bank submitted reports about Epstein early on, and particularly when it terminated relationship with him from the bank in 2013 – and consistently between 2013 and 2019, as required."

The representative continued: "It does not appear that federal authorities or law enforcement responded to those SARs for years."

Individual Reactions and Judicial Status

Representatives for the identified persons have issued different statements regarding their mention in the documentation:

  • Glenn Dubin's representative asserted that the referenced financial activities were not connected to Epstein's crimes
  • Alan Dershowitz maintained the only funds he received from the financier were for professional legal work
  • Leon Black's representative chose not to respond

Crucially, not one of the persons named in the documentation have been charged with crimes in relation to the financier.
