California's Governor States He Is Weighing a White House Bid in 2028

The California governor, a prominent member of the Democratic party, has disclosed that he will make a decision about whether to run for president in 2028 following the 2026 elections are over.

"Yes, I would be lying if I said no," the governor remarked when pressed about giving serious thought to a presidential run post the 2026 ballots. "That wouldn't be honest. And I'm not."

Newsom's current term as California's leader wraps up in early 2027, and term limits prevent another run. But, he noted that any choice is still years away.

"Fate will determine that," he said.

Increased Visibility as a Administration Opponent

He has stepped forward as a prominent adversary of the current federal leadership, using his online platforms and pushing a proposition that would boost the party's representation in Congress in following Republican redistricting efforts. This strategy has invited attacks from adversaries.

Federal Funding Dispute

Donald Trump's secretary of transportation, Sean Duffy, alleged that Newsom is indifferent about Californians in a recent appearance on Fox News. Duffy announced intentions to cut government money from the state and suggested eliminating the state's ability to grant commercial driver's licenses.

"I'm about to pull a significant sum from the state," he said, in the wake of a recently reported deadly accident in the state involving an unauthorized commercial driver that resulted in loss of life and four injuries.

Newsom's office noted that the U.S. government had renewed the worker's status multiple times, which permitted him to secure a CDL under national regulations.

Duffy had earlier stated he was holding back $40m from the state for not enforcing linguistic standards for CDL holders.

Pointed Reply from the Administration

"Former D-list reality star, now Secretary of Transportation, fails to grasp U.S. regulations," the governor's team retorted in a previous release responding to the funding warnings. "Meanwhile, unlike this clown, we'll stick to the facts: The state's truck drivers had a death rate significantly lower than the countrywide rate. The state of Texas – the only state with additional licensed drivers – has a rate substantially higher than California. Facts don't lie. The federal leadership misleads."

Public Opinion and Future Prospects

A this month's study revealed that a majority of the party and a significant portion of the electorate indicated that Newsom should run for the White House in 2028. After the current administration began, public support for the governor has increased to an average of 33.5% from approximately 30%, while his disapproval has fallen from an typical level of over 40% to 38.4%.

Earlier this year, Newsom remarked while on a trip several key regions that he had "no idea" about his future for the next presidential election.

He mentioned his personal struggles, including being found to have a learning disability at the early childhood.

"The notion that a individual who scored 960 on the SAT, who has ongoing difficulties with text, who was always in the back of the classroom – the idea that you would even throw that out is, alone, extraordinary," he stated. "It's anyone's guess? I'm looking forward to who emerges in 2028 and who rises to the occasion. And that remains the key point for the American people."
